Argo draft pick Waud signs with Redskins

Hamilton native Daryl Waud has been signed by the Washington Redskins of the NFL.

Waud, a 6-foot-5, 270 pound defensive tackle, participated in a three-day mini-camp over the weekend and was subsequently signed to a contract. It’s expected he’ll attend the team’s training camp in July.

The 21-year-old played his high school football at Sir Allan MacNabb before staring at the University of Western Ontario where he was a three-time OUA all-star and two-time CIS all-Canadian selection. Waud was drafted in the second round, 12th overall, by the Toronto Argonauts in last week’s CFL Draft.

Regardless of whether he makes the roster or not, he is not likely to be available to the Argos until late August at best. Should McEwen decide to return to school, then Argos will be missing their top two picks (not that McEwen can’t attend training camp).
