TSN anchor ignores Argos Grey Cup win, pays for it on Twitter

TSN anchor Jennifer Hedger, earned the scorn of CFL fans and one astute player when she discussed the Raptors loss to the Cavaliers on Friday night’s SportsCentre….

Black is a member of the Toronto Argonauts, who won a Grey Cup in 2012. In Toronto. With 53,000 people at the Rogers Centre. With another 5.3 million watching on TV. Hell, even Justin Bieber was there.

CFL fans can be a sensitive bunch when they feel slighted, as we’ve chronicled before, and they didn’t disappoint this time around…

As a number of the Twitterati pointed out, TSN is the exclusive holder of CFL broadcast rights and therefore, would probably prefer that their own anchors refer to it as a professional league…

As for Hedger, she got chirped pretty good at her Twitter account @jenniferhedger…

The answer to that question, at least for now, would be no.

Hedger is a reader you have to blame the copywriter for this one. How would she know ??

    • Whenever an anchor at Sportscentre is on camera (“an on cam”) they are responsible for writing the script. The writers are resonsible for highlights, news reports, etc. In this instance, it appears to be a case of the opening banter, which is usually unscripted. So this one is squarely on Jenn – whether she meant to slight the CFL or not.

She should know as much as any of us, if not more. Some people can question what they read quickly, but maybe she can’t.

Not only is TSN a rights holder of the CFL broadcasts, they are ALSO a co owner of the very league franchise that Jennifer is ignorant of.

You would think that being in such a position, it would be important for this owner to make their people more aware of their sports product.

    They should be embarrassed.

  5. Until CFL becomes or is termed Universal Canadian Football League or it is the World Grey Cup similar to World Series – ensuring a universal tone – the CFL will be an afterthought. Stating World Champion New England Patriots implies the one and only. But then, we don’t need that degree of arrogance. Didn’t Hedger to commercials with Chris Schultz, a Grey Cup Champion?

  6. Relax people, She’s talking about professional sports teams.

Well, players get paid, so they are….ummmm…..what’s the word I’m looking for?

      Oh yeah….Professional…..

      • I wouldn’t consider the average CFL players salary too professional.

        • Oh, so now there’s a threshold for how much someone needs to be paid before being professional? Are you working as an amateur yourself?

  7. When it comes to sports, most Canadians are STUPID and un-sports patriotic which includes Jennifer Hedger who works for the company that is half owner of the Argo’s. Those Canadians support and/or make a big deal of the NHL, MLB, NBA which have Canadian teams and NFL but don’t support or make a big deal of a great Canadian professional organization in the C.F.L.. Excluding the NFL, those loser Leafs, loser Raptors and loser Jays don’t win cups (Raptors never won one) like the Argo’s do every 3-5 years. When was the last time those loser teams of U.S. organizations win a cup? Also, You will never see people in the States show support the same as we do for their sport organization. It’s time those Canadians were patriotic and supportive of a Canadian organization in the C.F.L.. GO CFL GO

  8. A league that forces half of it’s players to be from a country that hardly plays the sport at an amateur level…

Watching CFL football is like watching a father son game of hockey… Its bizarre…

  9. considering a lot of Canadians spend their time watching the NFL over the CFL. and the internet trolls love to hate…….

I hardly think 2004 to 2012 is every 3 or 4 years and TSN fails on many many occasions

What clowns like James and MrKus here don’t realize is the CFL is actually well received across the border. ESPN 2 audiences are growing since we play in summer months before the NFL begins. You see are American friends don’t have quite the inferiority complex or the lack of understanding some of us up here are cursed with. They actually enjoy our league for the beautiful game it also is. Oh and James maybe try a quick trip outside the GTA, tons of kids play the game across this country and (p.s.) just to bring you up to speed only seven Canadians must be in the lineup, many teams use more, that’s just how good our guys have become. Course how would you possibly know that ?

Who cares! It’s Toronto. Only the people that live there are upset. The rest of Canada is laughing!

Toronto Argonauts are the oldest sports franchise in North America and has won more Grey cups than any other team.
Before skydome was built an Argo game was the hottest ticket anywhere . Exhibition stadium was sold out all the time .it was so much fun back then
The only thing that has changed is the the apathy of Toronto sports fans .hopefully with the move to BMO field the excitement will return and miss Hedger will remember how important the Argos are stiil to tsn . There tv numbers don’t lie

Part of me wishes to think Jennifer Hedger is a loyal Tiger-Cat fan who has (understandably) deleted these traumatic Argo Grey Cup victories from her memory. Fact is an error was made and I’m sure the source – be it Jennifer or another TSN staff – regrets the error. It puts both TSN and Jennifer in a very unprofessional light.

It also goes to show the degree to which the Argos need to paddle upstream to get attention in Toronto: a week or so ago it was Fan 590 radio host Dean Blundell dissing the CFL.

  15. MRKRUS your a fucking idiot
