Here are your week 17 Sleepers and Value plays, with prices based on DraftKings salaries. Always check a depth chart first, before plugging and playing!
Kevin Glenn, QB ($9,200) – Saskatchewan
Short leash, much? QB controversy? Kevin Glenn has to be sick of hearing these terms, they’ve hovered around him for his entire CFL career. Many, including us have been curious why Chris Jones hasn’t flat out gone with Bridge at the controls. So, let’s call this a Glenn/Bridge value play at QB. No team gives up more big plays than the Ottawa REDBLACKS on D, and there won’t be a shortage of fireworks in week 17’s contests. So it comes down to where and how you spend your money.
Julian Feoli-Gudino, SB ($4,300) – Winnipeg
Darvin Adams was banged up at practice on Thursday morning, Timothy Flanders sounds like he will miss the contest this weekend. Matt Nichols has enjoyed a chemistry with the Canadian pass catcher often this season, and usually in the red zone. This may be a very high targeted position for Winnipeg in week 17, and could potentially be the sleeper of the week.
Kamar Jorden, SB ($5,800) – Calgary
The stud receiver has been practicing all week, and when the depth chart comes out on Friday Dave Dickenson said he’d make a decision on if he will dress for the game. If Kamar does, THIS is the pass catcher Bo Levi Mitchell OH SO DESPERATELY would love back in the lineup. And, just in time for one hell of a slug fest at Tim Horton’s Field on Friday evening. If he’s in, that salary may be the value play of the week.
Diontae Spencer, WR ($8,100) – Ottawa
I think we jinxed him a few weeks ago when we said on our podcast that he’s nearly a must start every week. Then, Quincy McDuffie returned to the lineup and took away some of his return duties. Well, with Harris back in controls of the offense he loves to get the ball into Spencer’s hands and Ottawa has gone back to using him on punt return duties. Added value, but a bit higher of a salary than we’d like. When the depth chart comes out, if McDuffie is nowhere to be found this should be a good play. Not to mention, the Riders are without stud Corner Kacy Rodgers due to injury.
Brad Sinopoli, SB ($6,900) – Ottawa
Brad is a funny fantasy player. Very, very rarely will he have “blow you out of the water” weeks like the previously mentioned, or Greg Ellingson. Or any of the other superstar receivers. He’s one of the highest targeted receivers in the CFL, yet he has only had one 100 yard game this season. He’s been pedestrian for too long, and matched up against Moncrief at the SAM position should allow Brad and Butter to spread it on at Mosaic Stadium. If anything, even if he has a Sinopoli game of 10-13 points, its right on par with his salary.
Caleb Holley, SB ($4,500) – Saskatchewan
For how good Ottawa DB Baltimore has been in the Ottawa defense, he’s giving up a decent amount of yardage (listen to episode 73 of our podcast released Thursday evening for in depth stats on it). There will be some value for Holley, who at that salary should come through.
Jeremiah Johnson, RB ($7,100) – B.C.
Winnipeg vs BC games always prove to be a shootout, heavy run presence and with so much at stake on Saturday we’d see Jeremiah Johnson being relied upon heavily to establish the line of scrimmage. For an in depth breakdown, listen to Episode 73 of the Onside CFL Fantasy Show.
Edmonton Eskimos Defense ($4,700)
It sure has been a few weeks since we’ve featured this unit, but their secondary will get a HUGE body back and healthy this weekend: Shut down DB Brandyn Thompson. Who was BT in the Eskimos secondary before BT was BT? Well, that was Aaron Grymes. Now with them BOTH on the field at the same time, that has me gitty with excitement of what kind of havoc they can reak. Week 16’s win may not have been pretty, and we don’t expect they’ll be friendly to Ricky Ray. The 3rd highest salary defense, but they could be the highest performer of week 17.
