Canadian QB Brandon Bridge to workout for New York Giants

Saskatchewan Roughrider quarterback Brandon Bridge has a workout scheduled with the New York Giants in December, per sources.

After signing with the Riders in August of last year, the Mississauga-born Bridge has shown intriguing potential, especially in 2017. Bridge started in Week 13 for the Riders in Hamilton and guided the team to a victory with 231 passing yards and three touchdowns. Two weeks later, the 25-year-old came off the bench to lead a comeback win against Toronto, finishing 20-of-28 for 292 yards and two touchdowns.

Overall, Bridge passed for 1,236 yards with a 66.6 completion percentage (92-of-138) and 10 touchdowns to just four interceptions while adding 20 carries for 127 yards and one touchdown on the ground. He sparked the Riders offence in the East Final, completing 11-of-21 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown in the team’s defeat. The TD toss was the first by a Canadian in a post-season game since Russ Jackson in the 1969 Grey Cup.

Bridge was originally drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in 2015. That same year he attended Dallas Cowboys rookie mini-camp but was not signed.

A pending free agent in February, Bridge has been in contract negotiations with the Riders.

“Definitely, I would love to stay here, but at the end of the day, it’s still a business,” Bridge said.

Saskatchewan’s head coach and general manager Chris Jones knows the Canadian signal caller’s talents well.

“He brings a lot of really big intangibles to the position,” Jones said. “He’s a dynamic young player.”

81 Comments on Canadian QB Brandon Bridge to workout for New York Giants

  1. Canadian ratio and salary cap are the real issues that need to be addressed or we risk losing talented players like Bridge.

    • habbernack // December 10, 2017 at 1:23 pm //

Perry..Bridges would probably make more money on the practice roster in the NFL than as a starter in the CFL

      • PR spots in the NFL pay $115K/season and Bridge’s salary would be 2 or 3 times that. So, no, he wouldn’t make more on an NFL practice roster.

    • Ivan Diablo // December 16, 2017 at 1:40 pm //

money is easier to be had in the nfl, once u get there

  2. Would not be surprised to see him sign elsewhere. We truly don’t Ike to grow our own talent in regina we would sooner grab the old to extend careers

  3. Huh. Well this is a little curious.
Didn’t Chris Jones and the riders say they were in negotiations with Bridge on a contract extension. Clearly that wasn’t true. What can you believe out of Mosaic? What else isn’t true?

    • Don’t start trying to cause shit… Worry about the stumps and their situation with QB… Maybe find one that can finish the job

      • WHo’s stirring shit? Is this not true?

Do you think Bridge can finish the job? I bet you’d take a dfor BLM trade any day wouldn’t you?

        • Donkeyisstillanidiot.com // December 10, 2017 at 1:53 pm //

Donkey is still an idiot, and a welcher.

        • Hey Idiot , For all your CHIRPING WHERE IS BLM getting a try out regarding the NFL , NO WHERE , that is right looser your GAY QB is NOTHING TO NFL TEAMS, so BLM can continue to fuge pac sheep on some farm outside calgary quite happily and contentedly !!!

        • theonlydispassionateriderfan // December 11, 2017 at 10:20 am //

@Brightred – “were in negotiations” is not the same as “offered a contract”. Seeing as they have until February to resign him, “in negotiations” can take all the way up until then to resolve. Clearly you don’t understand the difference between preliminary and finalized. There is no conspiracy, there is no false info being provided. Just your jaded, biased nonsense, as per usual.

        • Ridersnhabs // December 12, 2017 at 1:42 am //

Not a chance , a QB with a bad shoulder that can’t finish . No thanks you can keep him

    • Lancaster/Reed // December 10, 2017 at 12:25 pm //

Go away donkey, the adults are trying to have a conversation. If you want to play with yourself, do it in private.

    • Is there a rule stating ineligible to work out with teams while negotiating? Are you looking for examples to support your opinion of something, but having to rely on inaccurate hypothesis?

    • Bridge was highly rated in the NCAA, he had some injury issues that hurt his NFL chances.
If he wants to leave and become a 2nd or 3rd stringer in the NFL, good for him he will make far more than being a backup and potential starter in the CFL

    • riderontheisland // December 11, 2017 at 10:39 am //

Go lick your grey cup wounds and stop trying to make Riders fans feel as pathetic as you.

  4. He’s a free agent attending a workout, I’d be doing the same thing. Good luck Brandon hope to see you back in 2018.

  5. HORSIE BRIDGE is the one who said that is agent contacted the Rider’s get your facts straight

  6. Rider Prider // December 10, 2017 at 11:35 am //

Why the hell can’t the team be in negotiations with Bridge and at the same time let him go for a workout you brightred turd?? That’s what a good team and coach does. They allow their players a chance to go fulfill their dream. Idiot.

    • I would say ALL teams let their players go for tryouts in the NFL.

      • They only get tryouts in the NFL if they are invited. Most of our CIS players would not get invited.

        • The starting centre for the Giants is a CIS guy, Brett Jones (Regina). The Chiefs starting guard, Duvernay – Tardif, is from McGill . So yeah, CIS (U) guys can play in the NFL .

    • NO need for insults.
I apologize. You’re right. Jones had no boundaries who we will talk to or negotiate with. We need look no further than the Manziel incident last year.

      • Hey bright no need to apologize to sliders fans they get delirious from finishing last place or 4th place year after year ,there is ZERO chance the Bridge makes the NFL can’t even start in the CFL even with a 4th place sliders team .

  7. Nothing too much to get excited about. The Giants tried out about a dozen CFL free agents a year or two ago because they had an ex-CFL guy on their mgmt team. I’d be shocked if he stuck. Good bargaining tool for his agent, however. I still think Jones is looking past Bridge for a starter. So I doubt this is bothering Jones too much.

  8. A Canadian QB in the NFL –that’s what we need to show us that Canadians can play football

    • Already happened. Jessie Palmer

    • He is US trained! ex-NCAA so it does help. He has played against the big boys and done the 12 month a year football boot camp, he’s faced defenses that were bigger, stronger, faster, better coached than anything a CIS QB would face
An ex-CIS QB would NEVER get a work out.

  9. We are going to be used by the Bridges who display writers cramp when it’s convenient but enough talent that isn’t missed by the Giants for example! Terrible!

  10. Brightred. What is told to the media, and what really goes on behind the scenes are two different things. Lesson is free of charge. You’re welcome.

  11. I hope we don’t lose bridge. A huge mistake if we let him leave for different venues. Cfl commish needs to address ratio issue asap. We need to be innovative with talented players. We need a Canadian quarterback. Great idea that needs league supported incentives.

    • sorry Margaret , in this case the ratio issue would be meaningless, as if Bridge impresses, he could be even places on a NFL Futures contract , that would pay FAR more then a regular yearly CFL CAP salary ( 500K plus at least , so a 500K plus contract for a QB in the CFL destroys the CFL teams salary cap SEE ticats ABLETROS ( colaros ) as an example . However good luck to Brandomn , hope he does well and earns a contract , at 25 /6foot 5— can run and cannon for an arm, some game based battle testing — with ELi on the way out in New York – Toronto being in spitting range of NY ( familiar to them market wise ) Bridge might just have a decent shot at siging there / they already have Jones from Weyburn Sask on their roster already .

      • greenenvy? // December 10, 2017 at 5:53 pm //

The NFL doesn’t need another “cannon” who can’t throw straight. Bridge is the poor man’s Tim Tebow. Neither one of them could hit a receiver but at least Tebow had a college career with a major program. Bridge’s college career – meh.

        • Hmm but it would come down to character not !! Bridge by all accounts a likeable / coachable kid that WANTS !! to compete a the highest level, worth risking a flyer and expense bringing in the best QB whisperer in the NFL, and see what happens . Tebow , again kind of Manzel like in the Big EGO , I am a huge star in Colege big petagree I deserve etc etc. Bridge maybe more Bradey LIke as in under the radar and just looking for a chance to show his talents. Not saying Bridge isa BRadey , just he is more coachable in my opinion —-but as such agreed its along shot he gets that opertunity.

    • Let’s face it he’s not truly “Canadian” – he’s ex-NCAA and US trained. The Canadian ratio was meant to help CIS players not NCAA players

  12. It’s only a media posting by Justin dunk lol yes his agent gave riders a number and he has till Feb. Coach Jones has 21 other guys to re sign as well. Let him try out if he is as a few riders trying out already rogers demski along with other teams free agent players. We just have to wait and see what happens out off the riders as who gets re signed.

  13. While seeing the next Russ Jackson would be “nice”. I’m not sure I understand the obsession. Any proposal of incentive I’ve heard to date would harm the league as much or more than it would help.
Besides that, is a Canadian QB going to increase interest in the problem areas? I can’t see why it would.
The fact is; the pool of talent for Canadian QB’s is extremely small. How many are there playing in the NCAA? You can take the greatest from U sports and you have “experiments” requiring years of investment in time-at best. Look at Calgary. We drafted Brad Sinopoli. He had a year to show his goods-clearly he was no where near good enough. After that Calgary converted his talents to receiver (you’re welcome Ottawa). A fact not many people would know- most people assume he was Calgary’s emergency QB. In fact he wasn’t. It was Keon Raymond at that time. What does that really tell you???

    • pantsonfire // December 10, 2017 at 5:59 pm //

You’re right on in this case. Name a Cdn QB starting in Division I football right now in the US. It’s rare. Cdn QB’s starting for Cdn universities are a long way behind a QB coming out of the US colleges. A Cdn QB playing junior football has as much chance. Bridge did come from a US program but he wasn’t great. His chance of landing even on a PR in the NFL are next to zero. They’d have to invest a lot of time on him. First of all, they’d have to completely re-jig his throwing motion. And that’s the beginning.

    • He couldn’t be the next “Russ Jackson” since Russ Jackson was a CIS player and the last CIS player ever to win the league MOP
      Bridge is an NCAA graduate

  14. Make one passer exempt from the salary cap so that CFL teams can get and keep top players in that position.

    • Can’t afford it.
They tried the marquee player thing and teams like Toronto were almost bankrupt, other teams couldn’t compete.
You can’t make the CFL like the NFL, we don’t have the Billion Dollar TV contract and advertising dollars.
Accept that it is not Major League, enjoy it for what it is.

  15. Sources Say // December 10, 2017 at 1:18 pm //

Would you want to come back to an OC like Stephen McAdoo?

  16. Congratulations to him hope he does well. Fun watching him play

  17. Let’s all try this guys. No matter how tempting it is to respond to his idiocy, let’s not. I honestly wish there was a way to block certain posters here and a way to keep people from duplicating handles and changing them as often as their underwear. I came here to begin with because I thought I had another source of information like CFL.ca, TSN.ca etc. This guys ruins the whole experience. There are nice and intelligent fans on here but it has become painful to sift through his rubble to find their posts which are not responding to donkey crap, and worse yet, nearly EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN THREAD !!!!!

He starts crap here. He sits on both sides of the fence. My only suggestion is for EVERYONE on here to simply not respond to ANY of his ridiculous posts and hopefully his attention craving little self will just go away seeking the attention elsewhere. I agree with the others about needing professional help as this is not a case of simple trolling. Everyone can see it in his posts. He posts things that he laughs at others for posting, just to argue with the next guy and he keeps arguing the point until, I think, he convinces himself he is right. Next thread (sometimes same thread), total switch. He is so disrespectful to other members here.

I don’t think the powers that be want to moderate the board, they are reporters. They are treating us as responsible adults. Problem is we have responsible adults and a donkey so maybe we need to self police. We can’t ban him but if we refuse to answer his posts, he will not get the attention he seeks. This has seemed to work in another couple of thread so lets try to be vigilant and just NOT respond to his posts. Just bypass them like they are not there. Then maybe he will clean up his act or make him go away. It does seem to work but we must be vigilant.

    • First off. I resent you accusing me of being multiple posters. I’m 1 poster. I change my handle often yes but never more than 1 person at a time. AND RIGHT NOW, I am NOT “STAMPS” as you accuse. Get off it!
Second, for someone who wants to ignore me you write entire novels about me! MY God. There should be a charter limit. You would surely be over it.

    • greenenvy? // December 10, 2017 at 6:05 pm //

Why don’t you start with YOU not responding & show us the way. The powers that be want discussion points which includes both sides of the fence. Instead of constantly trying to throw someone off the site, who isn’t swearing etc, maybe accept the fact that people are sometimes poking the bear. Nothing wrong with that. Lighten up BC.

    • I can’t believe anyone would go on and on ad nauseam trying to convince everyone to ignore another poster. Read his posts or not, your decision but he has much tight as you to post.

    • So if you don’t agree with someone ban them?
Seems to be happening on sites.
I was a long term poster on CFL Forums, I was banned because I criticized the lack of interest in the CFL in Toronto. If you get on their site and you say anything that appears to be negative you are banned.
Too bad the moderators have spoiled that site, let’s hope this site allows criticism

If you don’t like someone’s post just ignore them, why respond or argue?

  18. Gee I wonder if all these rider fans that call Bo Levi a choker would be interested in getting him LOL.

    • Not on your life would i want Bo Levi rat on my team… He can’t get the job done and blames everyone but himself

  19. Yes bc you are right. Hard not to respond. With some of the comments

    • It IS hard. That’s why I too used to get caught in his web but he feeds off that so if we pretend he s not there, his attention seeking needs will not get fulfilled. It actually worked on a couple of other threads. If I know his handle du jour, i just do not read his crap. Easier not to respond that way. He ruins the whole board and even most Stamp fans say he is not welcome.

      • greenenvy? // December 10, 2017 at 6:09 pm //

And……………on cue, the pity party begins. Just curious, what was the “offensive” statement from Brightred today?

  20. Gee I wonder all these b.c. fans that call Bo Levi a choker would be interested in getting him LOL

    • Argos Rule // December 10, 2017 at 8:57 pm //

The argos dont want him. They have seen up close what an egocentric choker he is. Im not sure even trestman could turn him into a reliable big game qb.

  21. All you anti Stamps fans that what to talk serious football!! ok lets go! The Stamps have been the class of the western conference for how long?Other than the only challenge with the eskimos you rider and b.c. and winnipeg fans what have you got????? Oh yes call the Stamps chokers in the Grey Cup. But the Stamps were in the Grey Cups because you guys were BEAT.Eskimos are the real challenge the Stamps have faced because they have a great organization. You rider and b.c. fans are JEALOUS and say immature things like Bo chokes or the Stamps choke while you sit with your team not even in the conversation of who will win the cup

    • So far in this article and it’s responders you are the only one to use the term choke. A bit defensive are we?? Related to that other character?

  22. This is foolish. He is not American football player.

  23. Hmmm stamps fans trolling and mouthing off again on yet another article linked a rider player /topic, hmmmmmmm hey stamps fans ( the ones that chirp the riders ) , just go troll your own looser team, ohhhh right hardly anyone writes anything about them much as not a lot of folks are interested in whether they even exist or NOT !!! Personally I favor the LOOSER PEDERS not existing , wouldn’t life be grand if they crashed and burned in that joke shit hole of a stadium they play in !!!!!

    • Boy getfat51
You have quite the high standard! If you consider Calgary a losing organization what would you call your riders?? I’m really curious

      • We should start a petition to get a presidents trophy for the regular season, so the stamps can get their name on some kind of trophy. Its what you really care about , isnt it? Lol. ARGOS 2017 GREY CUP CHAMPIONS.
Stamps? Two time overwhelming favourites turned two time epic CHOKERS.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HAHA HA.

  24. The Giants have worked out nearly 200 CFL Canadians over the last few years, they have never, ever signed one. They use the CFL to measure their own prospects.

  25. Dan and Horsie are the biggest losers on this site. Get a life boys and maybe become men someday.

  26. BLM doesn’t even get a whiff from the NFL so that says a lot.

  27. How hypocritical is this! B. Bridge wants to meet with the CFL Commissioner about making the Canadian QB starting position part of the Canadian starter ratio, and he’s down at NFL camps trying to play in the NFL, not the CFL, like Demski is as well. How does that help the CFL and the huge Canadian ratio problem, that is old school and clearly is not selling CFL 3 down football and obviously doesn’t work in today’s highly competitive professional sports leagues. When there is an unrealistic and unobtainable guaranteed Canadian starter ratio and huge Canadian guaranteed roster ratio to fill. When there aren’t near enough quality Canadian players out there to begin with, not even close! And where in way too many cases in the CFL, there are too many terribly weak Canadian players who are basically automatic Canadian ratio fillers. Who have no business being on a CFL field because they are just handed their CFL starting and roster stops, that they haven’t even earned and don’t deserve to have. This has to change if the CFL has any chance to grow their fan base and grow their brand of 3 down football. And to accomplish this, their handcuffing, dictating, guaranteed Canadian starter and huge roster ratios need to be abolished, so finally CFL teams can recruit the best and most talented players to start and play at every position for entire CFL game in the CFL, like in every other professional sports leagues, including MLS soccer. So CFL 3 down football can be played at its highest level with the best available players. And if a real truely Canadian player that wants to actually play in the CFL and not the NFL, then make them have to actually make a CFL team, like the Americans have too. NIK Lewis, keep up the good work and get the word out there, because you are entirely right!

  28. Prove me wrong // December 11, 2017 at 4:40 pm //

Well, with Bridge leaving and Franklin in TO, gangrene and jones remain in GREAT shape as they have Kevin Glen as their starting QB. Oh.. right… well ANOTHER losing year in 2018 I predict.

    • Lancaster/Reed // December 11, 2017 at 8:20 pm //

You also predicted glenn wouldnt be with the riders at the 2017 trade deadline, soooo….. call me skeptical.

      • Provemewrong // December 11, 2017 at 10:59 pm //

Well skeptical (silly name for an adult) anyone can be mistaken in a long range forecast. Too bad that you are stuck with never win a Grey Cup Glen.

        • Lancaster/Reed // December 11, 2017 at 11:16 pm //

Long range? That was within 2-3 weeks of the trade deadline when you made that prediction. You probably cant even predict what you will have for breakfast tomorrow.

          • Provemewrong // December 12, 2017 at 10:23 am //

Your dementia must be getting to you. Try and remember the actual truth. Typical gangrene fan.

      • Gerry Teigrob // December 12, 2017 at 1:48 pm //

Prove me wrong…why would we want Grandpa Glenn while we still have Bridge until February? And I can’t see him going. If he does we have done ourselves a disservice by letting him go. He was the catalyst behind Glenn – Glenn could be the deer in our headlights. Likely he will be given a mentoring position as a parting gift.8

  29. Best of luck to Bridge. New temporary GM in NY with the Giants has a history of bringing in Canadian guys from the CFL and CIS. New ratio rules for Canadian QBs would really only help the guys drafted by CFL teams if they actually make a final roster out of training camp.

  30. Provemewrong // December 11, 2017 at 11:01 pm //

Gangrene is now down to their 2018 Grey Cup hope on Kevin Glen HAHAAHAHAHAHA… THAT’S got to HURT!!

  31. Hope we don’t lose bridge. We need a real quarterback for 2018. Bridge will make it interesting. Durant didn’t light it up right away so we need to be proactive and offer a lucrative contract to bridge.

    • Gerry Teigrob // December 12, 2017 at 1:50 pm //

I am hoping we can keep BB in Saskatchewan…he is our deserving starter. I can’t see Franklin coming now that he is an Argo. Now that CJ has a contract extension…its Bridge or bust!

    • naw we have adams and williams as well , mac’s offensive scene would allows those two fellows to have some success as Jones loads up the D and we shoot to win most games by having the opposition score les then 25 a game. he c we won a lot of games with DD leading the O to 20 or less often, under chamblin

  33. Frank Sabados // December 14, 2017 at 9:07 pm //

Giants are drafting a QB in upcoming 2018 NFL draft , no way will Giants sign Bridge , Bridge will not make the Giants
