Jerome Messam sub Tweets Bo Levi after watching Roethlisberger INT

So Calgary running back Jerome Messam was apparently watching the Pittsburgh Steelers game against the New England Patriots on Sunday when he saw something… familiar.

With 12 seconds to go, the Steelers down by three and his team at the New England seven-yard line, Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger faked spiking the ball then tried to throw a game-winning touchdown pass in the end zone. The ball was tipped, then intercepted and the Patriots won.

This was Messam’s reaction.

Now, it’s easy to read too much into a Tweet but the missive comes on the heels of the Stampeders’ recent loss to the Toronto Argonauts in the Grey Cup – a game in which Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was intercepted in the end zone while trying to throw a game-winning touchdown pass with his team in field goal range.

Reaction to Messam’s Tweet were, as usual, on point and laden with quality gifs… let’s start with Rider offensive lineman Derek Dennis.

And Calgary teammate Marquay McDaniel…

Random fans…

And there’s plenty more where that came from. Anyway, Messam tried to downplay the reaction to his initial Tweet with another Tweet (though, to his credit, he didn’t delete the original.)

We appreciate the advice, though.

Actually Messam is dead wrong. Why wouldn’t a qb take a shot for the win? Yes, bad things can happen such as an int or fumble. Bad things can happen on pretty much any play including kicking the fg.

Agreed. QBs should go for the win! Russell Wilson did it against the Pats. (Ooops.) Ben Rapelesburger did it against the Pats. (Ooops.) Kurt Warner did it against the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. (Ooops.) And Bo Mitchell did it against the Argos (Ooops.) I mean what could possibly go wrong?

But be a man, Jerome. If you are going to skip the Grey Cup press conference and then throw your QB under the bus via Twitter, at least own it.

Plenty more last play success stories than the failures you listed. Or how about the Giants/49ers playoff in 2003 where the Giants are lining up for a last play fg to win and a bad snap ultimately costs them the game? Not that they should have gone for the TD, just that bad things can happen on any play.

  2. Rome has fallen.

Something tells me Bo, Jerome and many other stamps are having a good laugh over a glass of eggnog right now.
Rome has not fallen. The stamps are resigning FA’s faster than anyone. Things can’t be dire

Mcdaniels blames jorden in front of media. BOOM. Bo does the same. BOOM. Messams blames bo in tweet. BOOM. The finger pointing is picking up steam. Stamps organization is starting to implode. How long till the collapse?

  5. Chaos in the coral! Panic in the paddock! It’s starting to look more and more like this team is about to implode. BLM to Montreal for Durant?

I hear the the Sumps have offered Jones EVERY head office and coaching positions, (with pinky finger near corner of mouth) ONE MILLION DOLLARS to take over and right this ship. Jones replied that he will keep his job with the sliders AND run the stumps. Says he will be suspended above whichever stadium he is coaching in and call ALL the plays.

  7. I love it!

  8. Where is Radio Ryan when there is such a hot topic in cowtown?

  9. Since when do QBs kick field goals or even decide on them? That’s on the coach, not the QB. The gunslinger only does what he’s told to do, especially in the NFL.

    • It was only 2nd down, still would’ve had time for the field goal if he hadn’t decided to throw a pick… and yes, that pass was his decision.

that pitt play sure as hell looked a lot like seattle’s last play in the super bowl

but calgary qb and big ben appear to both be gunslingers

BLM is the next Kevin Glenn. Not a player under pressure. The stamps have always been a selfish team. The individual comes before the team. So many players have left or been let go over the years.
It’s like driving by an accident or a moth drawn to a flame. So glad we get to watch and not participate in the big crash. We’ve had our fair share in the past like most teams.
Concerning to see all the finger pointing though. Coaches may need to trade some players to gain back control of the locker room. Jerome never did this as s Rider. Stamps need to developed a code of ethics the players have to follow.

Unlike Glenn, BLM has actually won a GC. You must be so happy to have the original and not just a cheap imitation Kevin Glenn. Stamp’s turnover pales in comparison to the turnover in the Riders so I don’t get where you are coming from with that one. And yes, they have selfishly played in the GC 3 of the past 4 years. I can see why you are coloured green…
