Ticats have 10 days to offer Johnny Manziel a contract

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have 10 days to offer quarterback Johnny Manziel a contract or risk losing his negotiation list rights.

In addition to announcing that they’d approve a contract for Manziel, the CFL has re-started the 10-day window for the Ticats to offer Manziel a contract, effective today.

If the Ticats offer him a deal and he rejects it, they retain his rights for a year.

It was Manziel’s decision to trigger the so-called 10-day window this summer that led to a review by the league and an extension of the deadline.

Offer him a min contract for a rookie with incentives. He will reject it. He will remain our property for a year. Then we sign Masoli and keep Zach. If it fails, then offer Johnny more money prior to the end of 2018 for 2019 camp. If he takes the min , then they still need to get on with a Zach decision.

  2. He’s worthless as a human being and as a QB. That’s been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Don’t offer him a contract. Don’t let the woman abuser into our league. The CFL is just fine without that circus.

Or sign him and watch people like me leave the CFL fanbase. I watch the CFL because it ISN’T the NFL. I really thought that idiot commissioner had learned his lesson with Art Briles. Clearly not.

    Bye y’all.

    Bye-Bye

  4. Hope you don’t leave Jerry. The cfl needs all the fans they can get. This is a great story line for the league. We are talking football in late December. The cats are in a great position with qb. In a couple weeks we will know where the cats are with Jonny football

Trade Manziels rights to the Riders for Bridge.

  6. Can’t wait to see him in TC with someone this spring

I thought Hamilton had learned a lesson from the Briles affair. IF the Ticats sign him, there may be a huge backlash from women’s groups and certain sponsors as well as fans.

  8. You guys who compare Manziel to briles are insane those who want him banished get off your high horse and relax ffs . As for my thoughts on Manziel I agree sign him to the minimum and see what h8s response is if he don’t like it you now have his rights for another year something tells me if he is serious he won’t want to sit out for another year

  9. He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone.

I am amazed at the vitriol aimed at JM. I wonder if those ‘holier-than-thou’ have ever screwed up – probably not, pure as the driven-snow’.

I don’t know if “…He’s worthless as a human being and as a QB” nor do I know “….That’s been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”.

If some team wants to give him an opportunity, so be it. Gee, that’s really not different from an Employer electing to hire someone whose past is not perfect.
If he screws up on or off the field, it’s a short trip to the U.S.

Absolutely correct…we have ALL screwed up…it’s when you KEEP screwing up and learn nothing from it that prevents me from wanting to invest my time in someone…and that describes Manziel, and UNTIL he shows that he has learned, I don’t want him anywhere near this team

  11. Not a fan of Manziel the individual, but I feel the league did its due diligence here. I’m sure every scenario will be examined to determine where he should play so the entire league can maximize its returns from approving his status on the field.

  12. This whole crap about 10days to offer him a contract is just that….crap! Any offer whether $500,000 or $55,000 only means that the cats have fulfilled their obligations and have his rights for another 365 days. So what’s is the point of this story?

Manziel will sign with one of Hamilton, Montreal or Sask.
He will fail badly like all other QB’s who have ever attempted a comeback under similiar circumstances.

  14. TiCats already in very good shape in the QB position for 2018. Masoli was great once he got the chance to play on a regular basis. Zach Colarios needs to have his contract cut in half in a take it or leave it scenario. Let him and Masoli fight it out for the starting QB job or cut him lose. Manziel should bring in a nice return in the trade market. With Sherman as the HC in Montreal they most likely would give the most for his rights.

    • Problem is Jones has gone on record that Manziel can be great in the CFL.

What message is sent if Manziel is traded to Montreal?

It would take a ton of assets coming back that I don’t believe Montreal has to save face.

  15. Waste of time and money. Keep what you have trade if you want but he will not get much. Useless as a QB actually useless as any player, only thinks of himself cannot handle the pressures as he has proven many times over.

  16. Makes sense that Ti-Cats at least retain his rights. Makes more sense for Ti-Cats to sign him as he will be unstoppable in the CFL if he has a clear head and wants to succeed.

    • Makes even more sense to retain his rights for now as Masoli is a FA while the chances of Collaros wanting to be back with a lower pay cheque seems slim.

  17. The Raiders fired their coach and all signs points to MNF announcer Jon Gruden becoming the coach…again. Here are the tie ins to Manziel. Gruden lobbied the Raiders hard to draft Manziel. They took Derek Carr instead. Gruden was Manziels Personal QB coach after Manziel’s stint in Rehab in 2015. Gruden talks glowingly about Senior Futbol ala June Jones… Derek Carr became friends with Manziel on a pre draft TV reality show shoot. Carr has spoken highly of Manziel and thinks he should be back in the NFL. What does this all mean? I think Eric Burkhardt, Herr Fussball’s agent, will try to slow the process down and see if Gruden actually takes over the Raiders and then shows some interest to perhaps bring Manziel in as an extra Raiders camp arm. If no interest is there from the Raiders or any NFl team Johannes Fussball, I think, will take whatever he can get just to get on the field anywhere.
