Saskatchewan RCMP chirps Bombers while getting drinking and driving message out

The Saskatchewan detachment of the RCMP used a little good-natured chirping to deliver a drinking-and-driving prevention message on Facebook.

While there’s likely to be some grumping about the professionalism of the campaign, the post has already been widely shared and commented on… meaning its an effective way to get out an important message. And it would appear the Saskatchewan RCMP have a bit of a cheeky streak. #notacop

Anyway, it’s probably worth mentioning that the Bombers finished 12-6, two games ahead of the Riders in the West Division last season (and won the Banjo Bowl.)

Hope that doesn’t get us locked up.

Who could grump about that, it’s hilarious! And gets the message across at the same time.
(by the way, the party is at the bush!)

  10. @ (Mimi) Me – if you are directing that towards me (Blue Rules) you could not be further from the truth, I enjoy the rivalry with Sask. I’ve worked, lived and have many friends in Saskatchewan, in fact going on Caribbean vacation with some this winter. Mostly I enjoy giving them jabs. I always wear my Bombers gear while visiting friends in Sask.

  11. Does anyone know where all the impaired drivers are going to be tonight? DM roads, locations, etc. Asking for a friend… #notacop ^sm

How to tell yourself that your drunk, if you start seeing what looks like the hulk and the green hornet smashing these little blue smurfs around, your not drunk, you’ve been watching the Banjo bowl! You can tell if your drunk, when you start choking at the Grey Cup game and realize those fans with melon heads are the real McCoy!!!

The RCMP originally wanted to refer to being over the limit by using the word “Bombed”
It was actually pretty good and if they could have somehow kept the campaign in SK it would have gone over well. The RCMP advertising committee knew that the plus of using a reference to the CFL in Ridernation would also be a negative. By social media spreading the campaign all the way East to Manitoba.
However the RCMP gritty committee will be using something very similar in Manitoba. suggesting all Bomber fans keep the Green away. Something to the effect of … Don’t ever be a “RIDER”. Stay away, stay out of a vehicle with a driver that’s been drinking.
Let’s face it we need to stomp out drinking and driving. If using simple tools like the name of the local CFL football team and their arch rival gets the word plastered all over social media. Then go for it. Do what ever it takes to get the word out there to save lives.
Sometimes by simplifying things and taking away the seriousness of the offence. The message gets through to the younger much quicker.
Most have said Bravo to this RCMP campaign. I agree 100%

    • All is good promoting NOT to drink and drive, would love to see something just as clever regarding texting and driving, perhaps labor day would be good timing. Texting is sadly becoming just as fatal. Keep the conversation going! To save a single life is amazing, to save all who suffer, due to the loss of a life is ASTONISHING.

  15. Everybody knows the statement that “the majority of Saskatchewan fans are inbred, banjo picking, rednecks” isn’t true. Most of them haven’t a clue how to play a banjo!

    duh!!!!!!!!!! wat’z ah banjoe?

  17. Happy New Year all, stay safe!

yes-have a safe and happy new year–do not drink and drive–we want to talk to you not about you- looking forward to cfl 2018–go riders go

  19. That was funny and brilliant and a good way to get out the message, have fun and ensure more than those on Twitter hear it.

Bottom line on this one is the message is getting out. The Bomber equivalent is “Do you suddenly find that Rider fan attractive? It’s probably time to hand over the keys.”

I remember this happening in Edmonton and Calgary last year as well. All in good fun to send an important message without personal attacks on players or coaches. Its refreshing

  22. Sask_ nothing humerous in having the highest drunk driving rate in the country. Only in Saskatchewan do they make lite of this sad statistic. Convicted dangerous drunk driving MLA reinstated. Hmmm …

    0 tolerance!
