Alouettes offered OC job to Bombers QB coach Buck Pierce

Montreal was spurned by former CFL quarterback and current Bombers quarterbacks coach Buck Pierce for the Alouettes offensive coordinator job, according to Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press.

Pierce has spent four seasons with the Bombers as a coach, two overseeing the quarterbacks after working with the running backs for a pair of years. Under Pierce, Winnipeg quarterback Matt Nichols has put up career-best numbers two campaigns in a row. He’s seen as a rising offensive mind in the league.

The 36-year-old retired as a player in 2013, he spent nine seasons with the Lions and Bombers amassing 15,289 yards, 76 touchdowns against 63 interceptions completing over 64 per cent of his passes and added 1,684 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 130 games, 67 of which he started.

Fellow former CFL quarterback Khari Jones was named the Alouettes offensive coordinator.

Whooo, happy to have BP remain in the Bombers organization.

No doubt. But another effort by the Als that got snubbed. When is management going to pick up on that?

  2. Apparently Belair direct would have fired him if he LT oil the Montreal job.

Buck using his head. Good job

  5. First off, I heard from a source close to the Pierce family very shortly after Buck went as a player from BC to Wpg that Buck’s dad believed (or knew) that Buck would take up residence in Winnipeg.

So this decision to stay with the Bombers is likely a reflection of 3 things:
    1. Als is not a steady ship and with no QB who wants that job.
    2. He sees a lot of upside remaining with the Bombers like Jarius Jackson did in coaching under Chris Jones in Edmtn and Regina before taking up his own OC gig. These guys seem to be longer term career thinkers.
    3. Buck doesn’t want to leave Wpg.

  6. 4. Bucks wife doesn’t want to leave Winnipeg

  7. The BUCK stops in Winnipeg. I bet his business and football ties to the city in addition to his wife being from there made it a easy decision to stay put. A great guy on and off the field that I hope stays in the Peg for many years to come.

  8. I never thought of to when I was hoping that we’d make a change at OC but a co-worker pointed out that Buck would be a great OC. I’d have to agree with that is before we signed JJ as OC (to work with JJ at QB and JJ at RB), I was hoping to get Buck back in BC. I love the guy (that’s for you Chris).
