Kent Austin has been in touch with Johnny Manziel’s agent as recently as Wednesday.
Johnny Football was given the go-ahead by the league office to play in the CFL in late December: the next step is for Manziel to sign a contract.
“I’ve been in very close contact with Erik Burkhardt for quite some time and in fact, we’ve spoken again today. And so that’s in-process right now,” Austin told TSN Hamilton 1150.
From the date of the CFL’s approval, Hamilton had 10 days to offer Manziel a contract.
“We certainly know about the window, but we’re also very familiar with the rules that are associated with that,” Austin said We’re in constant communication with him.”
In August, the former Heisman Trophy winner worked out for the Ticats, who passed on making him an offer. But Manziel’s camp activated Hamilton’s 10-day window, forcing the CFL club to make a decision on whether to sign, trade or release him.
The CFL then stepped in and extended the window for further evaluation until clearing Manziel to play in the CFL.
