Riders and Zach Collaros expected to renegotiate contract

Zach Collaros is due to be the highest paid player in the CFL for the 2018 season at over $500,000.

But as Sportsnet’s Arash Madani reports that could change.

The 29-year-old is due a $200,000 roster bonus on February 1.

Collaros has played in 59 career CFL games with the Argos (2012-13) and Ticats (2014-17) and accumulated 1,127 pass completions on 1,694 attempts (66.5 completion percentage) for 13,759 yards, 83 touchdowns and 38 interceptions.

I would expect that they have already had preliminary discussions. I had expected him to go either to Montreal or Sask with the preferred destination being out of their division…

If he refuses to agree to a new contract, Sask can release him a week after free agency begins… when no team will still be looking for a QB. He’s much better off taking a large reduction to play in Regina.

    • I guess you missed the part where Collarus is due to be paid $200K two weeks before free agency begins.

    • Jerry. Riders need to pay him $200k in February or he is a free agent. So … not sur the Riders have the leverage that you think. If I am Collaros agent I am taking offers from BC, Montreal and Toronto. Best one wins. Sask gave up a #10 pick to be first in line. No more.

  6. Why should he negotiate? He becomes a free agent. Toronto, Montreal and B.C. are all interested.
