Ticats set to extend Jeremiah Masoli and Brandon Banks

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and receiver/returner Brandon Banks are in Hamilton and expected to finalize and sign extensions with the Ticats, per sources.

Masoli and Banks were two large benefactors from the arrival of June Jones as head coach in late August. Masoli went 6-4 after being installed as the starter on Labour Day while Banks made the switch to playing receiver full-time.

The 29-year-old QB threw for 3,177 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing over 63 per cent of his passes, Masoli’s best numbers since coming to the CFL in 2013.

Banks posted career receiving highs in catches (67), yards (1,011) and touchdowns (eight). Speedy B had 52 yards before Labour Day and 959 in 10 games after.

This is good news to hear.

  2. Great news. No brainer.

  3. Love it!

  4. Excellent news!

This is indeed good news for the Ticats. These players helped turn the season around. Now just habpve to sort out the Manziel matter and the key players will be in place.

  6. “Mazaratti” plus speedy! ‘Throw’ in Manziell and…
2018: The Year of the Cats!

  7. The Riders just got closer to the G.C. and the Cats just
    got farther away.

I guess back to the “5 year Plan”

    • Peter I am a big fan of Zach but not sure of your statement. I may agree that trading Collaros will come back to bite us im not sure how resigning Banks who proved himself a deep threat and a 1000 yard reciever or Masoli (now with Zach gone) a qb who is familiar with the team and coach Jones system is a bad thing for Hamilton. I still prefer having Collaros on the team but if coach Jones can get Masoli to lessen the stupid mistakes and improve his red zone production I think Jeremiah will be our quarterback after Johnny Manziel has left his two-year stint in the CFL.

    • I agree Peter..June Jones will be the death of the Cats

  8. Sorry Peter but the second half of last season says otherwise. The Masoli/Banks combo was awesome
. Toliver and Tasker will be back, our Offensive line has improved, Jones offence is effective, I think we’re a step closer to the GC. Looking forward to 2018 season.

    • Tasker is a free agent. Don’t be so sure that he will be back.

      • Didn’t realize Tasker is a free agent. With the savings from the Collaras contract they hopefully can retain him.

  9. I don’t have the faith in Masoli that you guys have.
I think he has shown all he has and that is not enough
    to win a G.C.
    I hope I’m wrong.

    • Hey Peter I have been saying the same things but at this point I have to put some faith in coach Jones. He could very well have put us in the playoffs last season after an 0-8 start. Masoli has issues for sure, terrible short passes, needs great improvement inside the red zone and has been known to throw untimely picks or fumble the ball. Last season he showed a lot of maturity and if Jones can tighten up some of those lose ends I don’t think it will be all that bad. That said I would rather be celebrating a new contract for Zach but unfortunately that time has passed.

Masoli not enough???. His arm is great not to mention his running abilities. Did you not see him scamper 60 yards for a touchdown in the later part of the season?

  11. I don’t think it is fair to throw Zack under the bus. I wonder how he would do with the new offence plan and people in place now. 3 downs in one game is not a good enough time to evaluate.

  12. Zach is gone… Masoli is here… Manziel might be coming…. just another routine tumultuous off season for the Ticats…

Sure hope Zach isn’t AC v2.0… Riders are a much better team after that trade… Ticats still have a question mark at QB…

    • C’mon Mr. Snake…you know the (former) 1.5 m dollar man isn’t a replication of AC…not even close. I applaud the TC organization (which I don’t usually do) to put all that crap aside and do what is best for the team in the “now”…instead of what MIGHT transpire in the future.

  13. Garney.. You are right on Masoli’s weaknesses. But there
is a learning curve which Masoli has reached. He has been around for a long time, not as a starter, but long enough to learn his trade.I feel the next half dozen starts will tell the storey. He either becomes a bonafide starter or he’s done. At least with Collaros
we know he has it in him to be great.
And great is what we want, not a Glenn.

    • Masoli has also been stuck in the same Austin offense that AFAICT made no adjustments for injuries/O line play and preferred to have a ghost of a run game.

Jones is willing to make changes so I expect there is more to learn.

  14. Masoli and Banks proved their worth when given the chance…they produced big time. Great move to get them signed!

  15. Where does Terrence Toliver fit on with Banks coming back? He started last season as a go to guy . Great in the red zone . A very good player . Does he fit in to Jones system?

    • I expect he would … assuming he has recovered from injury.

What makes you question the fit?

Yippee, love Masoli, you may see me back in the stands after a one year boycott. Ticat management knows who I am and what I’m about! I still will not do night games! I may do 4 pm games. I need sun and light. Darkness is depressing! Bring back 1 pm or even 4 pm Labour Day games. Night is not good for families!

Goodbye Zach. Good luck with your career.

  17. Very solid moves by Hamilton today, Masoli deserves the contract extension and Banks was very impressive in Jones’s O.
