Alouettes re-sign QB Drew Willy

Drew Willy has re-signed with Montreal.

Willy played in 12 games with the Alouettes in 2017, starting two games. He passed for 547 yards and one touchdown.

He was acquired by Toronto via trade in September 2016 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. After the Argos got Willy he played in four games completing 77 of 113 passes for 681 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He did not even dress in the Argos final pre-season game in 2017 and was released, but signed with Montreal.

While with the Bombers, Willy made 28 starts completing 513-of-781 passes (65.7 per cent) for 6,385 yards, 31 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. The University of Buffalo product began his CFL career with Saskatchewan in 2012 and he was traded to Winnipeg on February 2014.

  1. Finally, the Als can start planning their Grey Cup parade.

Ahahahaha… Desperation setting in! Reed dosent want to have to deal with the consequences of only having 2 American QBs that have never picked up a cfl football. Let alone stepped on a cfl field.

  3. Why? How much do they need to see of this guy before realising he’s not very good?? Reed has no clue what he’s doing…..

    • Well…they gave up Brandon Bridge. They completely screwed up Rakeem Cato and released him, and then they gave away Vernon Adams Jr.

They obviously haven’t a clue when it comes to recognizing, developing and appreciating QB talent. Reed is the worst. But the QB Carousel has been going on for years now.

  4. Drew Willy should potential in Winnipeg, but when their O line let him get annihilated, he got hurt. Never was the same, same thing happened to Buck Pierce. Willy seems to be like a deer in headlights now, but with a good O line may be adequate. But don’t think he’s Montreal’s answer to a franchise QB, who they have been looking for since Cavillo’s retirement. Kavis Reed did blow a load on Durant, how is Josh Freeman going to adapt to the Canadian game, same as an first year American coach in Sherman? And no big signing in free agency so far, think it’s safe to predict Montreal will be fighting for last place in the East again.

    • TI-CAT FAN – I don’t think they’ll be fighting too hard for last place – I think everyone else in the East is going to leave them in the dust! 🙂

  5. Drew Tate may have been considered. Tate not bad QB with lots of CFL exp. Not sure how GM Reed is thinking .

  6. good lord kavis, really signing drew willy, if you are counting on him, well the season is over before it starts.

  7. Just to be clear: when I implore the Gods on a daily basis to find the Alouettes a quarterback, I mean “a quarterback who will win and lead us to a Grey Cup.”

    IOW. NOT Drew Willy.

    Hey Willie said elf

  9. absolutely ridiculous…I heard Kavis Reed in an interview last year talking about Drew Willy as if he wwas the second coming of Joe Montana….stunning

anyone, anyone, anyone in college ball, the CFL, the NFL, some retired players….would have been a better choice than Drew Willy….12 games last season and he looked more lost than ever….throwing for ONE touchdown….in the pass-happy CFL

the Als are a train wreck
