Eskimos repatriate hard-luck RB John White

The Edmonton Eskimos have agreed to terms with American running back John White on a one-year contract, per sources.

The 26-year-old is coming off a torn ACL suffered in the second game of 2017 after rushing for over 100 yards in Week 1. That was two straight season-ending injuries for White in the last three years. He tore his Achilles during training camp and missed the entire 2015 campaign.

But White had 1,350 yards from scrimmage with 886 on the ground in 2016 – the University of Utah product produces when healthy. In four seasons with the Eskimos, White has played in 41 games with 376 carries for 3,110 yards (5.6-yard average) and 12 TDs adding 84 catches for 736 yards.

The Esks also have American running back C.J. Gable on the roster.

6 Comments on Eskimos repatriate hard-luck RB John White

  1. Hardly a repatriation as he never left the Esks!

  2. Great move … most CFL teams have two decent backs and White will most likely get another opportunity to be a driving force. Love Gable, but he has had injuries in the past.

  3. Makes you wonder why Gable was expendable once the Ticats acquired Alex Green after one(great) game… could’ve kept them both. Must have been that ridiculous Collaros contract… he’s gone now… too bad they couldn’t get John White.

  4. i like white; not sure he’ll stay healthy, but i hope so

  5. Both White and Gable are injury prone. Maybe they’ll get to take turns

  6. To quote TSN’s Taylor earlier today, best duo in the CFL if healthy, by a wide margin. Great signing. Two of the best blockers among RB’s as well.
