T Rich and Messam in the backfield would be a sweet combo.

I am thinking we wont see Richardson. With Thigpen and Marshall and now Messam . . .man that is a deep stable of RB’s.

  2. In the CFL, your team is only as strong as your Canadian starters.

    • Brian Lower // February 14, 2018 at 3:54 pm //

A team is only as strong as your QB, and right now, you don’t have a reliable one

      • Zach will do just fine. As a Cats fan Im sorry to see him go but that is just the reality of a hard cap.

    • Not true……..you are as strong as your imports!!
The Argos won the Grey Cup on the backs of players like Ray, Wilder Jr, Butler and their DBs.

  3. How in the world can Saskatchewan keep signing guys to these high $$ contracts while remaining under the cap?

    • Green is the Color // February 14, 2018 at 3:28 pm //

Cap is not in play yet … meaning there is time to do what is needed to do to remain under. Hold your skirt, it’s only February.

    • This contract isn’t that high. We basically deleted Lafrance for Messam and unless he hits those incentives we save a little money.

    • they just released Derek Dennis. The Riders are no different than any other team. The cut 225K in salary with Dennis. Dennis is still a good player, but they made the decision to let him go to go after guys like Evans and Messam.

I hope you don’t work in finance, Robert.

Relax Robert. The Rider were paying zkeenan LeFrance the same money. He is now a Bomber. Us the Riders saw Nic Demdky sign with the zoom era plus they released Derrick Denis who was making $170. Its all good.
Besides there is always camp fall out.

    • Robert – $120k is not a high contract!
Looks like no other team thought Messam was worth that.
He signs a $120k contract which means other teams were offering less than that.

    • It’s the sliders and jones they feel they don’t need to follow the cap ,heck they can’t even count the right amount of players to be on the field during a Grey Cup game .

  4. Jerome time rapidly decreasing to get that CUP. The Green Machine looking very good in FAs. Plus Hughes, Jefferson, defense has no weaknesses. Receiving corp one of the best in CFL. If Collarus has a good year, they may be showing up in CWS this November. Jones needs to win that CUP, even though signed through 2019. IMO , now more than 50-50% for GC 106. 2018 very interesting.

Yep Steve it would be great to win the cup this year in Edmonton for coach jones to do it there would be great. We looking good on both side of the ball now with Jefferson Hughes and Evans and the rest of the defense along with thigpen and Richardson with messam now and 7 or 8 great receivers and BB and collaros at the helm we can get we done this year.

    • Yes, except Evans didn’t do much with Ottawa last season, he had zero pass rush.
But he is Canadian and they have to plug them holes

      • EVANS had 0 help form the most part on the OTTAWA D-line last year, as an inside guy HE was the MOST dangerous d-lineman on that team and was game planned for by other teams. Zac will do just fine as a RIDER— he has help from Willey J / Hughes at the ends, ex NFLer Cox or Big Nic James at the other tackle position ///rotational players like Henry/ Anthega, Riders might just have the BEST d-line in the league.

  6. Massive signing! With 6 figures – he won’t have to work in the off-season lol!

  7. Take it easy Robert I’m not sure you understand how this works but you could have 10 million dollars in salaries right now and it wouldn’t matter the salary cap does not come into play in the offseason. Just take a chill pill quick finger pointing and trying to come up with yet one more reason to hate on the Riders. Go troll elsewhere

  8. This just goes to show what happens when a team invests in an awesome stadium, branding and game day experience… players want to play there… then fans keep packing the place. Circle of life thing in the CFL. Look n learn Montreal.

  9. I remember when people said Calvillo wasnt a reliable QB.

  10. Messam is a steal at that price. Starting RB is 100K cheaper than paying Henoc to start at middle linebacker

  11. Margaret Marshall // February 14, 2018 at 10:39 pm //

Messam and Richardson will rock it. Smart move to bring messam to riderville. Riders did well when the running game was strong. Optimistic choice

  12. With Richardson coming in ready to go at training camp as opposed to getting game ready by playing he will be a beast. With he and Messam you have 500 lbs of backfield damage and QB protectors. It will be a great compliment to the receivers.

  13. Thank-you Calgary for teaching Jerome to actually BLOCK , while playing his position , at 32 Jerome will be a useful cog in the Rider machine; Insurance if Cam Marshall gets hurt again ,( as Cam is an excellent blocker as well as great RB, and Jerome can spell Cam as well as go and play at a high level when Riders go to a package requiring more International receivers for certain plays. Not a bad signing for a year or two indeed.
